Gale L. Bailey

Gale Lee Bailey 1944 � 1999 Gale Lee Bailey, dearly loved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home after a short struggle with cancer. (Aug 4, 1999) Born November 10, 1944, in Blackfoot, Idaho to Lee Jay and Lois Yost Bailey. After the sudden death of his father, when Gale was six weeks old, he and his mother returned to Bancroft, Idaho, where he was surrounded with loving grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. Gale married Leslie Dee Rogers on December 29, 1967 in the Salt Lake Temple. They were blessed with four beloved children, Brent, Melinda, DeLee and Bryan. Gale spent his school days in Tooele, where his mother was a teacher. He graduated in 1963 from Tooele High School. He was involved in student activities and sports where he lettered in football, basketball, and track. He was the 1962 and 1963 high-low hurdle champion for the state of Utah. He attended Utah State on a track scholarship. After returning from his mission to the Gulf States, Gale attended BYU where he graduated with his bachelor and masters degrees. Gale was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He had a strong testimony of the divinity of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Along with his full time mission he served two stake missions, president of the ward�s Seventy�s while living in Spokane, Washington, was a counselor to five bishops, Gospel Doctrine teacher, Young Men�s president and was currently teaching the young adults of the Murray 15th Ward. Gale loved to travel. He and Leslie had many wonderful trips with one another, and with their children and grandchildren. Many happy memories were made with their children boating and time spent at Lake Powell. Gale was an avid sports fan and was a faithful supporter of BYU. He enjoyed being involved with his children�s student and sporting activities. He not only supported his children, but many others who played for Murray High. Spending time with his nieces and nephews was also very important to him. Gale was currently a senior agent for Allstate Insurance. He also was a co-owner of the Lumbleau Real Estate School franchise in Richland and Spokane, Washington and had been the recreation director for the Coachella Valley in Indio, California. Survived by his loving wife; children, Dr. Brent (Trudie Evans) Bailey, Mt. Pleasant, SC; Melinda (Todd) Larsen, DeLee, and Bryan (Jamie Salmon) Bailey, all of Salt Lake; his grandsons, Mitchell and Jack Larsen, Brent Jr. and Evan Bailey also survive him; In-laws, Doug and Audrey Rogers, Dolores Rogers; brothers and sisters-in- law, Grant (Lori) Rogers, Julie (Charles) Pierce, Jane Rogers, Carolyn (Victor) Taylor, Kent (Ann) Rogers. Also, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins whom he loved dearly. Preceded in death by his parents. As a family, we wish to express our deep gratitude to dear friends, neighbors and extended family. Also appreciation to Dr. Eric Anderson, Dr. Gregory Litton, to the nurses and staff at Cottonwood Hospital and to Anne Martineau from Hospice. Services were held August 9, 1999 at the Murray Parkway Stake Center with interment in Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
